The Paton-Churdan Rockets lost the boys’ game in Churdan Jan. 6 to the Exira- Elk Horn-Kimballton Spartans by a 63-49 score.
The Spartans led almost the entire game. They were up 18-12 after eight minutes, and although the Rockets got to within four points with two minutes to play in the half, the score at halftime was 32-24. The Spartans were up 48-36 after three quarters. The Rockets pulled to within seven points with three minutes to play, 52-45, the Spartans held them off and claimed the win by 14 points.
Junior Joe Towers led the Rockets in scoring with 19 points, including a 3-pointer in each half and five of seven free throw shooting. Junior Jake Berns scored 12 points, senior Chase Juergensen scored five with one 3-pointer, freshmen Tyler Miller and Kaleb Fisher scored four each, senior Trevor Bundt scored three and junior Charlie Minnehan added two points. The Rockets were whistled for 18 fouls while the Spartans were whistled for 13.
The Rockets have lost the last five games and are now 2-7 on the season.
